school Theory & Formulas

Pneumatic Cylinder Formulas:

Required Area:
A = F / (P × η)

Bore Diameter:
d = √(4A / π)

Where:
- F = Required force
- P = Working pressure
- η = Mechanical efficiency (typically 80-90%)
- A = Piston area

ISO Standard Bores (mm):
8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250

Notes:
- Typical pneumatic pressure: 4-8 bar
- Account for friction losses (10-20%)
- Consider rod diameter for retract force
